Kelso
9th, 10th & 11th July 2010
Friday 9th July – Me, Simon and Col headed off for the BMF show at Kelso. After around four hours of travelling we finally arrived in Kelso, greeted by a few dark clouds and spots of rain, we carried on regardless.
Once we had located our pitch we parked the scooters to one side and started to unload the car. We put up the gazebo and tents and started to set our stall out when were approached by a member of staff who very kindly advised us that the plan had changed which meant we were in the wrong spot and so had to move. So after a swift half an hour and me spitting out my dummy and chucking all my toys out of my pram we set off to our new pitch.
We finally got set up and so decided to have a walk into town to purchase the two essential items for the weekend………beer, food and more beer!!
We all ate and slept well to rise the next morning to find that the gazebo had leaked, soaking our table, table cloths, flyers and food. Unfazed we cleared up and carried on as normal. We had an excellent day handing out leaflets, raising money, selling patches, raising awareness and generally having a good chat with people.
Once again the evening set in and off we went into town to get a takeaway and a few beers.
The next morning the wind was howling and the clouds were looming, again unfazed we fired up the stove, made a brew and started cooking our breakfast. With one almighty gust of wind one whole side of our gazebo collapsed, bringing it crashing down, unfazed, Simon carried on cooking his mushrooms. I found a wooden stake that had been used to mark the pitches out and managed to strap this to the metal frame work to strengthen it. A couple more good gusts of wind and the gazebo finally died. Our tents were also taking quite a battering so we quickly came to a decision and packed up the Numbum show as fast as we could. With that we took some time out and walked around the show and enjoyed our remaining time there. At about 1:30pm we decided to head for the long ride home. Thank you to Collin and Dougie from the VSOC who helped to keep our spirits up.
Also a big thanks to John McKeown who raised £107 at the Uttoxeter bike show and Jeff Hayes who sold £95 worth of raffle tickets at his works in Warrington
